PIVOT Entry Door

PIVOT is Aluprof’s large-format pivot door system for exterior entry applications. The system uses 77 mm thermally-broken aluminum profiles with a 3-chamber thermal break and offset-axis pivot rotation hardware in place of standard side-mounted hinges. Ud > 0.73 W/(m²K) is achieved with the thermal break geometry and standard glazing where included.

The defining technical feature is the offset rotation axis, typically located 1/3 of the slab width from the hinge edge. As the door opens, the slab both rotates and translates relative to the opening: the front edge swings into the interior and the back edge swings into the exterior, producing the signature pivot-door movement. This also means both ends of the slab pass through the opening, so PIVOT requires clearance on both sides and cannot be installed in tight corners or narrow vestibules.

The concealed pivot hardware consists of a high-capacity bottom pivot mounted in the floor structure and a top pivot mounted in the head. The bottom pivot carries the slab weight; the top pivot steadies the slab and prevents lateral movement. Both are concealed when the door is closed, presenting a clean uninterrupted slab face. Slab weight capacity is significantly higher than standard hinged hardware: standard installations support slabs up to 4 feet wide and 10 feet tall, with custom hardware for larger and heavier slabs.

The increased capacity enables custom slab cladding with wood veneer, stone veneer, composite panel, and metal-clad construction. The 2 EPDM perimeter seals are sized for the pivot geometry, compressing against the slab as it rotates from open through closed. Locking is multi-point with floor-strike engagement at the bottom and head, plus additional perimeter points; Smart Lock and electronic strike systems are compatible.

Installation requires floor and head preparation. The bottom pivot mounts in the floor structure with appropriate substrate and finish-floor detailing; the top pivot mounts in the head with structural blocking in the rough opening. Clearance for slab rotation must be available on both interior and exterior sides.

Application range is contemporary custom residential primary front entries, premium multi-family lobby and penthouse entries, high-end commercial entries (hotel, office, retail flagship), and modern statement entries with custom slab cladding integrated with the facade. The system is not appropriate for fire-rated applications (use MB-78EI), tight installation constraints, or standard residential where aesthetic and cost don’t align.
