PVC — IGLO Series

IGLO 5

The workhorse of the IGLO PVC line. 5-chamber Class A profile, 70 mm build depth, Uw = 0.89 W/(m²K). Made entirely from primary PVC material. The right call when the project doesn’t need 7-chamber thermal but the spec still needs to be a serious European window.

Why spec this one

IGLO 5 is the model most multi-family and standard residential projects actually need.

Three reasons to pick this over the 7-chamber options:

  1. Cost. Lower per-unit price than IGLO EDGE or ENERGY. When the unit count is high, the savings stack.
  2. Spec sufficiency. Uw = 0.89 W/(m²K) meets New Jersey energy code without modification. Triple-pane glazing upgrade hits Uw values appropriate for most code-driven new construction in the Northeast.
  3. Reliability. Class A profile, MACO MULTI-MATIC KS hardware, EPDM perimeter sealing. Same hardware platform as the rest of the IGLO line. No corner-cutting on the operating components.

If the project is multi-family with a high unit count, standard residential where Uw < 0.7 isn’t required by code, or an ADU build where budget discipline matters, this is the model.

Standard equipment

  • MACO MULTI-MATIC KS hardware with 2 anti-burglary engagement points and Silber-Look anti-corrosion coating
  • Sash lifter (sash position blocker, dependent on window height)
  • Microventilation on tilt-turn sashes
  • Hinge covers in 4 colors (white, silver, light brown, brown)
  • Aluminum window handle
  • Double-pane argon-filled IGU at Ug = 1.1 W/(m²K)
  • Galvanized steel spacer (Swisspacer Ultimate warm-edge available as upgrade)
  • 2 EPDM perimeter seals in black (interior and exterior)
  • Hardware groove sealing
  • 1.5 mm U-channel steel frame and sash reinforcement (2 mm for balcony door sash)
  • White PVC core
  • 5-chamber PVC sub-sill profile with seal

Full technical detail

IGLO 5 is a 5-chamber Class A PVC tilt-turn window system at 70 mm build depth, manufactured exclusively from primary PVC material (no recycled core) with embedded steel reinforcement. Class A designation per EN 12608 requires outer wall thickness of at least 3.0 mm, which IGLO 5 meets across all profile elements.

Thermal performance of Uw = 0.89 W/(m²K) is achieved with the standard double-pane argon-filled IGU at Ug = 1.1 W/(m²K) and the galvanized steel inter-pane spacer. Upgrading to the triple-pane double-chamber IGU at Ug = 0.5 W/(m²K) and the Swisspacer Ultimate warm-edge spacer reduces the Uw to approximately 0.72 W/(m²K), bringing the system into the 7-chamber thermal performance range without changing the frame geometry.

Hardware is MACO MULTI-MATIC KS with Silber-Look anti-corrosion coating, 2 anti-burglary engagement points as standard (the differentiator from the 4-point hardware on the premium 7-chamber line), and a sash lifter that prevents incorrect handle position. Microventilation is included on tilt-turn sashes. Hinge covers ship in four colors (white, silver, light brown, brown).

Steel reinforcement is 1.5 mm galvanized U-channel in both frame and sash, increased to 2 mm in balcony door sash applications. EPDM gasket sealing uses two perimeter seals (interior and exterior) in black; the central gasket present on the 7-chamber IGLO ENERGY family is not part of the IGLO 5 specification. The two-gasket system provides adequate sealing for most residential and light commercial applications in the Northeast US climate.

Standard PVC color is white with matching core; brown is the second factory-standard option. Three-color factory standard (including anthracite) requires the IGLO 5 CLASSIC variant on the same 5-chamber platform. Operation types include tilt-turn, fixed, tilt-only, side-hung, top-hung, and balcony door (full-height tilt-turn with reinforced sash); custom geometric shapes are supported.

Acoustic insulation ranges from 36 dB to 44 dB depending on the glazing package. Application range is residential new build and replacement, multi-family, accessory dwelling units, and light commercial fit-outs across the Northeast US climate envelope. NFRC-equivalent thermal data, wind load ratings, and water tightness ratings are available for code compliance submission.

Where it fits

Spec it for

  • Multi-family residential where unit count drives per-window cost discipline
  • Standard single-family new build where code Uw target is met without going to 7-chamber
  • ADU and accessory building primary glazing
  • Replacement work on standard residential with single-pane or low-grade double-pane windows
  • Commercial fit-outs requiring European-spec tilt-turn at workhorse pricing

Don't spec it for

  • High-performance or passive house residential (use IGLO EDGE)
  • Premium residential where the cost difference to IGLO 5 CLASSIC is negligible and three-color is preferred
  • Concealed-hardware aesthetic requirements (use IGLO EXT or IGLO PREMIER)
  • Acoustic-driven projects above 44 dB (use IGLO EDGE for the 47 dB rating)

Within the line

IGLO 5 is the entry point to the IGLO line at the 5-chamber tier. IGLO 5 CLASSIC adds color flexibility on the same platform.
