Wood — SOFTLINE Series
SOFTLINE 68 / 78 / 88 Entry Door
Solid timber entry doors in three build depths. Three-layer laminated pine or meranti. Aluminum thermal-break threshold standard. Ud from 1.1 W/(m²K) at 68 mm down to 0.85 W/(m²K) at 88 mm. Traditional and historic residential where the front door is the architectural statement.
- 0.85 W/(m²K) Ud (88 mm)
- 68/78/88 mm Build depths
- 3-layer Laminated timber
- Pine / Meranti Wood species
- 3-point Multi-hook lock
- Aluminum Thermal-break threshold
Why spec this one
SOFTLINE wood entry doors are the right specification when three conditions apply:
- The architecture is traditional, historic, or transitional. Colonial Revival, Federal, Georgian, Tudor, Victorian, Craftsman, or any style where the front door is meant to read as solid timber.
- The interior face needs to show stained or painted timber. The entry hall or foyer visible through the front door has a wood-forward design where a PVC or aluminum interior would read wrong.
- The budget supports premium material. Wood doors cost more than PVC and most aluminum. The premium buys the timber aesthetic, historical correctness, and the thermal performance of a 68 to 88 mm laminated slab with three EPDM seals and an aluminum thermal-break threshold.
If all three apply, SOFTLINE is the model. If any of them don’t, look at the aluminum entry door line for hidden-hinge modern aesthetics, the PVC entry line for value, or the DUOLINE wood-aluminum window line for the timber interior without the exterior wood maintenance.
Standard equipment
- 3-point multi-hook lock (top hook, middle latch, bottom hook from the deadbolt)
- 3 roller hinges sized for the slab weight
- 3 EPDM perimeter seals
- Glazing (where included) at Ug = 0.5 to 1.1 W/(m²K) depending on package
- Aluminum threshold with thermal break strip
- Factory-applied translucent (lazurowe) or opaque (kryjące) finish
- Aluminum handle
- Mounting cylinder for the lock hardware

Full technical detail
SOFTLINE is a three-layer laminated wood entry door system available in three build depths (68, 78, and 88 mm) and two wood species (European pine and meranti tropical hardwood). The system uses the same construction philosophy as the SOFTLINE wood window line, with structural laminated timber slab and frame plus entry door hardware including 3-point multi-hook locking, 3 roller hinges, and aluminum thermal-break threshold.
The three-layer laminated construction bonds three layers of solid wood with the grain rotated between layers. The opposing grain directions cancel each other under seasonal humidity variation, preventing the warp, twist, and binding that affects single-layer solid wood entry doors over time. This is the European standard construction method for premium wood entry doors and is the reason SOFTLINE doors maintain operation over decades where single-layer wood entry doors require periodic planing and rehanging.
Thermal performance scales with build depth. The 68 mm depth at Ud = 1.1 W/(m²K) suits residential applications where moderate thermal performance is acceptable. The 78 mm depth at Ud = 0.9 W/(m²K) is the standard premium residential entry door spec. The 88 mm depth at Ud = 0.85 W/(m²K) is the top thermal performance in the wood entry door category, comparable to premium thermal-break aluminum entry doors through solid timber construction.
The seal configuration uses 3 EPDM gaskets, matching the premium PVC entry door spec (IGLO ENERGY and IGLO EDGE doors). Hardware includes 3-point multi-hook locking engaged from the deadbolt, 3 roller hinges sized for the laminated timber slab weight, aluminum handle, and mounting cylinder. Smart lock and electronic strike upgrades are available across the three depths.
The aluminum threshold with thermal break strip is standard, the primary reason SOFTLINE wood entry doors do not develop the bottom-rail moisture issues common on traditional North American wood entry doors after 15 to 20 years of service.
Maintenance cycles for exterior wood entry doors require annual visual inspection, cleaning every 12 to 18 months, finish touch-up every 5 to 8 years on south and west elevations, and full refinish every 12 to 15 years. The aluminum threshold, factory finish quality, and three-layer construction extend the cycle. Doors installed under porches and overhangs require significantly less maintenance than doors exposed directly to weather.
Application range is residential entry doors in traditional and historic architectural styles across the Northeast US climate envelope — particularly historic districts in northern NJ, Westchester, Bucks County, and Fairfield County, traditional and Colonial Revival custom residential, and premium custom builds where the front entry is the statement piece. NFRC-equivalent thermal data, wood species reference, finish samples, and historic district compatibility documentation are available by direct request.

Selected finish:
Where it fits
Spec it for
- Historic district residential where wood is required by district guidelines
- Traditional architecture (Colonial Revival, Federal, Georgian, Tudor, Victorian, Craftsman)
- High-end custom traditional builds where the front door is the architectural statement
- Period-correct replacement work on pre-1980s residential
- Premium new construction where the entry needs to read as solid timber
- Projects matching SOFTLINE wood windows on the same building
Don't spec it for
- Modern and contemporary architecture (use D-ART Line, MB-86N SI, or PIVOT aluminum doors)
- Clients who won’t tolerate exterior wood maintenance
- Secondary entries and back doors (use IGLO 5 PVC door for value)
- Coastal high-exposure where direct salt spray hits the door (use the aluminum entry door line)
- Budget-driven projects (wood costs more than PVC and most aluminum)
Within the line
SOFTLINE is offered in three build depths — select by thermal target and architectural intent.
| Model | Uw / Ud | Chambers | Depth | Notes |

| SOFTLINE 78 This model | 0.9 | 3-layer | 78 mm | Most common |
| SOFTLINE 88 | 0.85 | 3-layer | 88 mm | Premium thermal |
Lead time and process
Quote in 5 business days. Lead times typically run 12 to 16 weeks from order confirmation. Custom finishes, meranti species, decorative glazing patterns, and historic district configurations may add 2 to 4 weeks. For historic district work, we coordinate the design with the district’s guidelines during the quote process.
