PVC — IGLO Series
IGLO EXT
Outward-opening PVC windows and balcony doors with concealed hardware. MACO Multi-Power hinges hidden when the window is closed. Sashes up to 150 kg. Uw = 0.89 W/(m²K). The model for projects where inward-tilting won’t work and the hardware needs to disappear.
- 0.89 W/(m²K) Uw
- Outward Opening direction
- Concealed MACO Multi-Power
- 150 kg Max sash weight
- 5 Chambers
- 70 mm Build depth
Why spec this one
Standard European tilt-turn windows open inward — the sash swings into the room. For most residential and multi-family interiors that works fine.
It doesn’t work when:
- Interior window treatments (curtains, blinds, shutters) would interfere with the inward swing
- Interior furniture placement makes the swing path impossible
- The interior is a tight space (bathroom, kitchen, narrow hallway) where a 24-inch inward sash swing is unworkable
- The architect specifically wants the outward-opening aesthetic (cottage, traditional European facade)
- The opening serves a balcony or terrace and the door needs to swing outward to clear interior deck space
IGLO EXT solves the swing problem. Hardware on the windows is fully concealed when the sash is closed — the exterior face reads as a clean PVC frame with no visible hinges, while the interior has the standard handle and trim.
Standard equipment
- Concealed MACO Multi-Power hardware for window sashes up to 150 kg (hinges not visible when window is closed)
- Surface-mounted hardware on balcony door sashes (door hardware different from window hardware)
- DM25 double-roller multi-point lock on balcony doors for full sealing or vent position closure
- Aluminum window handle with double-sided cylinder
- Double-pane argon-filled IGU at Ug = 1.1 W/(m²K)
- Galvanized steel spacer or Swisspacer Ultimate warm-edge upgrade
- 2 EPDM perimeter seals in black
- Hardware groove sealing
- 1.5 mm closed-section steel frame and sash reinforcement (2 mm for balcony door sash)
- White PVC core
- 5-chamber PVC sub-sill profile with seal

Full technical detail
IGLO EXT is a 5-chamber Class A PVC window and balcony door system designed for outward-opening operation with concealed hardware on window sashes, built on the 70 mm depth platform shared with the rest of the IGLO 5-chamber family, with hardware modifications that enable the outward swing and concealed hinge geometry.
Window sashes use MACO Multi-Power hardware rated for sash weights up to 150 kg. The Multi-Power hinge mechanism is fully concealed within the frame and sash when the window is closed, presenting a clean exterior face with no visible hardware — the signature aesthetic and primary differentiator from standard outward-opening windows that use visible surface-mounted hinges.
Balcony doors use surface-mounted hardware due to weight and operating frequency. The DM25 zasuwnica provides double-roller multi-point locking with two positions: full sealed close and partial vent. The vent position keeps the door locked while providing ventilation through a small perimeter gap — useful for overnight ventilation without security compromise.
Thermal performance of Uw = 0.89 W/(m²K) matches the standard inward-opening IGLO 5 at the same depth and chamber count; the outward hardware does not reduce thermal performance. Upgrading to the triple-pane double-chamber IGU at Ug = 0.5 W/(m²K) reduces the Uw to approximately 0.72 W/(m²K). Steel reinforcement is 1.5 mm closed-section (heavier than the inward IGLO 5 U-channel due to the cantilever load profile of outward operation), increased to 2 mm in balcony door sash.
EPDM sealing uses two perimeter seals in black, with geometry modified for the outward swing. Acoustic insulation is 34 to 35 dB — a narrower range than the inward IGLO 5 (36–44 dB) due to glazing compatibility constraints with the concealed hardware. Operation types include outward side-hung windows, outward balcony doors, fixed glazing, and top-hung; custom geometric shapes supported.
Application range is residential new build and replacement, multi-family, and light commercial where outward-opening operation is required by interior layout, architectural intent, or window-treatment compatibility — particularly bathrooms, kitchens, tight interior spaces, balcony/terrace doors, and modern residential where the clean exterior face is part of the design language. NFRC-equivalent thermal data and concealed hardware section drawings available by direct request.

Where it fits
Spec it for
- Bathrooms and kitchens where inward-tilting sashes would interfere with interior fixtures
- Tight interior spaces where the inward swing path is unworkable
- Bedrooms with full window treatments where curtain rods or shutters conflict with inward sashes
- Balcony and terrace doors where the swing needs to clear interior floor space rather than the deck
- Modern residential where the clean exterior face (no visible hinges) is part of the design intent
- Replacement work on older European-style buildings that originally had outward-opening windows
- ADUs and tight-footprint builds where every square foot of interior swing clearance matters
Don't spec it for
- High-performance residential requiring Uw < 0.8 (IGLO EXT thermal is 5-chamber standard)
- Acoustic-driven projects above 35 dB (use IGLO ENERGY family)
- Standard inward-opening residential where swing direction isn’t a constraint (use IGLO 5)
- Top-hung-only requirements (IGLO PREMIER is optimized for top-hung scissor-hinge operation)
Within the line
IGLO EXT and IGLO PREMIER are the two outward-opening options in the IGLO 5-chamber range. EXT is optimized for side-hung windows up to 150 kg; PREMIER for top-hung and scissor-hinge operation.
